Review on Helicoil 5528 6 8 24 Thread Repair by Joe Glass

I used Helicoil sockets on the job many years ago and was pleased to find that they still made it easy to mend loose threads. I was disappointed to find that the kit does not come with the correct sized drill bit (25/64" diameter) for the included tap - not all of us have full 64" SAE graded drill bit sets. Since I was using this thick but relatively soft aluminum insert, I used the smaller 1/64" (3/8" diameter) drill bit and the helicoil threading and insertion proceeded without difficulty. The price is a bit high but the repair was much cheaper than replacing the repaired item. Highly recommended.
