Review on Garmin ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Nuvi 50LM GPS Navigator by David Pullen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Reliable navigation, intuitive user interface, excellent map quality

This is my second Garmin device. Both were reliable and accurate. I've owned it for a few years and will now review it again because Revane reminded me that I've never posted a review. Either way, this is one of the most rewarding purchases I've ever made. I've used this to navigate San Jose, San Francisco, Denver, and other locations. It always gets me exactly where I need to go and has accurate information about intersections, lanes, one-way streets and speed limits. I was in France recently. This unit only comes with a preloaded US map, but you can purchase a microSD card and maps for other countries from the Garmin website. I bought an inexpensive 8GB MicroSD card from a local retailer and bought a full download of a map of Europe from Garmin and was then able to use this GPS in Europe. I've used it extensively driving in France and Italy, and it provided brilliant navigation on all laps, tight one-way city streets and scenic back roads. GPS has the ability to avoid toll roads, which worked great as all motorways in France have tolls. The map also had correct speed limit information everywhere I went, which was extremely helpful. Kudos to Garmin for maintaining excellent quality maps. If there is one downside, it's that the built-in battery only lasts 2-3 hours. Therefore, the device usually has to be connected to the network, which is not a problem when used in the car. But battery life is an issue when not in the car, so it's not the best choice for long hikes. (Yes, I've used it on camping trips and it works great for getting coordinates.) The box includes a power cord that you can plug into your car's cigarette lighter. The GPS uses a MiniUSB connector, so it won't fit in a standard MicroUSB phone charger. The user interface is simple and intuitive. The display is bright and easy to read even in sunlight thanks to its anti-reflective screen design. This GPS easily gets 5 stars.
