I don't know if the device is defective or if 2 terabytes is just too much to control over USB 2.0. My data transfers stopped every few minutes while writing to the hard drive. I had to constantly restart the data transfer and it took FOREVER - more than a dozen hours. I reformatted the hard drive and had fewer "stopping" issues, but. It was still ridiculously slow to transfer 250 gigs to disk. I used it to store music in my car and the car also had a problem reading the disc. I returned it and got a USB 3.0 from another manufacturer, transferred all my files in a short time and im without problems car used.
