I put this in a small bedroom (11x11) that is damp. It sits above ground and receives very little direct sunlight, so it tends to stay damp and the soil sticky. Often takes on a musky odor. I closed the door. I spent the night and very little water was collected. I could tell a little difference in the room. Maybe it's too small or the room isn't as humid as it seems to me. When the spring rains come I can tell you more about its effectiveness. At this point I could change my rating. For now I would say it's okay.
