I like the Aircast brand in general so I ordered these as I recently had foot surgery and didn't like the boots they brought me home. I needed a wide toe boot and it worked well for that purpose. One aspect that initially bothered me was new to me. I read that other reviewers said these boots were loud but didn't understand what they meant until I put them on. It's loud and that's because of the way it's constructed. The piece of plastic that is inserted through the front of your foot and covers the top of your foot attaches to the main unit of the boot with Velcro. But when you walk, the velcro flexes, just like a plastic boot, and that makes the pesky velcro creak. But I found a really easy fix for this and that's why I'm writing this review. Because apart from one aspect, these boots are far superior to anything I've tried. The reason Air Cast is better is that along with your boots they sent you a little blue bulb which is actually a rather complicated hand pump to inflate various parts of the inside of the boot. After trying it on, you can use a small pump to adjust it. This can be very important in the first few days of healing after surgery. You want your foot to be "comfortable". It only takes a few minutes and you will make a world of difference in terms of comfort and support. But what's even cooler is that when you recover and the swelling goes down. You can use the same small hand pump to deflate different sections or add more air if needed. The little pump is reversible, so making sure you don't lose it is a brilliant idea! What I love about Air Casts is that they come completely disassembled if you want to flush all of the components. They're not cheap, so I always keep them after I've healed just in case I need something like that again. What I almost always do! upside down.) I didn't think it would work because if you look closely at the 2 opposite edges, they are shaped slightly differently. but it turns out it doesn't really matter. When upside down, this piece still fits the same as it does upside down. Of course the velcro is on the bottom now, but that doesn't matter as a very wide strap is enough to keep the boot in place. In fact, Velcro is an addition that very few other shoe manufacturers bother to add. If the forefoot is upside down, the shoe is quiet and still fits well!
