Review on LuK LFW262 Flywheel by Ruben Jamrock

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not a good product at all, hands off

Ordered this flywheel for my wife for a 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5i. Since the throwout bearing was noisy, we decided to just replace everything while we were there. When this flywheel arrived I was immediately skeptical because it didn't have a center, just a big open hole. I called the company and they said I needed to replace the old flywheel with this new one. The screws holding this together aren't the usual types I have in my toolbox which leads me to believe this whole procedure doesn't make sense, why not just include this part? Connected this flywheel to the Exedy clutch kit and installed everything. all together. At the first start there were slight fluctuations, which I simply issued as "new parts". My wife picked the car up and called me about a minute later to say the car was shaking and the revs were fluctuating. I met her on the street and drove myself, it was TERRIBLE. The car seemed to skid low, vibrated (especially when idling to 2500) and there was a slight knock. I immediately thought of new colorful words. I had another flywheel from Luk that Revain sent me, but nobody could convince me it was a good idea. I was advised to try to rebuild the OEM unit but nobody here will do that so I decided to just buy a new OEM unit from the dealer. Expensive, but at the time my options were minimal and it was the only logical way to start the car. I spoke to the guys at Subaru and they said the center piece should never be unbolted from the flywheel, it's not designed for that and the Luk flywheel just isn't the right part. Everything disassembled again, new clutch installed exedy. Kit and put the flywheel OEM Subaru. Immediately after the first start, the car started and worked as usual. The machine runs the oil smoothly and exactly as it should now. I will never touch a Luk product again, it's not worth the "saving" at all.

Pros
  • understandable even on the old one
Cons
