I wear men's size 9 shoes and got these socks in size small, as recommended by the size chart. They were a little tight in the toes when new, but they stretched out to fit comfortably after a few minutes. The socks are made from two layers of knit fabric with a waterproof barrier bonded between them. It does work pretty well to keep my feet warm and dry in cool wet conditions (wet weather or wet terrain). Because of the bulk, I don't think I'd want to use these in hot wet weather. 15 inch tall knee-height is great for use with tall boots or for colder conditions.
