We bought several types of bathing shoes at the same time hoping that one would really suit us - and that's ER! This little shoe has a non-slip rubber sole, very flexible but still a sole. This allowed our little guy to wear them on the pool deck and in the water without slipping and they protected his feet well from the hot pavement. We bought XS and it takes up little room to grow. The shoes are designed so that the "growth room" is behind the heel instead of at the toe to prevent stumbling. The shoes are tight and he loves them! (I just outlined his foot on a piece of paper and it measures about 4 1/2 inches.)
