Good Entry Level CNC Router and Laser Engraver

First, I should note that this requires assembly. I knew that before I bought it. If you're looking for a fully assembled CNC that you can just take out of the box and use, then this isn't it. For much more $$$$$ you can get one. Also, this is not a professional CNC designed for production. This is a hobby level device and is good for beginners and hobbyists. It comes very well packaged and takes less than 2 hours to assemble. Just pay close attention to details as you go. I made a YouTube video with very detailed building instructions, but I can't post it here. I have other CNCs in this 3018 format, and Since the laser head comes with this device, it is a very good price. plus., usually not offered as stock items. This reduces the amount of dust and chips that are thrown up during milling and cutting. The printed assembly booklet comes with an included booklet, but I suggest you read the manual on the flash drive that came with the unit. It also includes software, drivers, and some test files for you to use. This block doesn't have limit switches, but the control board has inputs for X, Y, and Z limits if you want to add them. Constraints are not necessary if you keep your project settings in mind. There is also an input for a Z probe, but the probe is not included. Also not required but can be added if desired. The control board of this device is well protected by both the plastic base and the outer protective cover. Wiring is easy and connections are clearly marked. The laser works very well when properly focused (all lasers need to be focused). Tip: If you're laser engraving wood, don't do it indoors with a smoke detector! You can imagine how I know that. The router and included engraver bits worked well for a trial engraving on 1/2" thick plywood. The router's spindle has an ER-11 collet, which is a plus. "Heck bits. There are ER-11 collet inserts on the aftermarket , which accept bits with a 1/4" shank, but be aware that this is a small motor, so that very shallow passes are required when making a mouldboard. However, the aluminum frame of this device is quite flat and I could not determine any highs or lows with the locksmith's ruler. The connection to the computer is via a USB cable and the driver is on a USB stick. The installation (I used Windows 10) was easy and understandable. The computer can then be used to control the machine for both milling and laser engraving processes. Tip #2: If you are using a computer to run the file, either install it directly there or DO NOT hibernate it or your project will crash when hibernated. This also comes with a "standalone" controller, so no computer is required to run the file. The offline controller has an SD card slot for uploading your file. The screen is small but works well. Please note that the standalone controller and the computer cannot be connected at the same time. You use one or the other but not both or it doesn't work. Also, the laser head and router motor can't be connected to the control board at the same time, otherwise it won't work, although I don't know why to do it. Overall, this is a great value for the beginner or hobbyist looking to get into laser engraving and CNC milling. Assembly and setup was a breeze (disclaimer - I've done this before), and since you get both the laser and router in one kit, you can work with both without having to buy one or the other separately. Are there any disadvantages? Not really. The only problem I had was the four nuts with the wrong threads. $1 at the hardware store did it, but I assume you can contact tech support. I informed the seller about this but did not seek a replacement. The devices may have been packed late at the factory. Conclusion: I don't think you can go wrong with this device. Just note that this is not a heavy-duty production machine. They start at around $5,000.
