This is one of the most beautiful tools I have ever owned. Metal touches metal when closed - Use the protractor to measure angles - The edge (where the ruler joins and separates when folded) does not affect the straightness of the line drawn - The hinge tension is light enough to open and close easily, but firm enough to maintain angle - Measurement markings engraved and then painted on - Ruler is small in both height and length (when folded) A few additional notes: For people who measure in inches, this only measures in millimeters and centimeters ; Conversion is an option. Even if the loop should last a long time, I would carefully open and bend the ruler just in case. This ruler is well designed and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a portable multifunction ruler.
