We bought them to go to the land of thieves, also known as Italy. We felt safe knowing that the lock had to be locked in order for TSA to pull out their key. There is a red indicator on top of the lock that shows if the lock has been opened with a TSA key. The red tab can only be reset after the lock has been opened with an access code. We felt safe with these locks and had no problems with them. TSA didn't open our luggage at all which was a nice plus. But it has helped us feel more comfortable leaving our luggage at our hotels and unattended at the train station while we travelled. I think I ordered black locks and got light green ones. I didn't care what color they were so didn't bother sending them back. They served the same purpose.
