Well it's time to remove that old strap that slipped through. The belt was broken and worn out. The replacement was easy, I only had to remove 3 screws on my vacuum and I recommend doing this outdoors as you won't believe the amount of dirt that comes out when you remove the cover. After removing the old belt and brush I recommend checking that the bearings at the end of the roller move freely, otherwise you will be installing a new belt which may fail again. My bearings seized and I had to be patient with cleaning them with alcohol and then lubricating them with some grease. So I installed the belt, turned the vacuum cleaner and the cat jumped and ran away.
