My daughter weighs about 40 pounds and is about 39-40 inches tall. Now she wears most 4T dresses, some loose 3T dresses still fit. And we're buying 5T clothes for them right now too - mostly pants/leggings that are the right length, but 5T shirts are usually too big. I wanted them to last more than one season so I went with the 5T. Worn at the waist or as a sweater, I could just tighten them up with drawstrings like I do mine. The only problem is they don't have a full length drawstring waist like mine. Instead, the lace is simply sewn on directly in front to only tie at the nape of the neck. Although this is a big disappointment and extra work for me (I have to sew her up with a few stitches in the back until she grows out) I only took off one star because she loves them and loves to look like a mommy in my bloomers and the pants themselves are just beauties! The photo I took of her doesn't really do them justice - the brightness and saturation of the colors are just beautiful. And we haven't been in the sun yet, but I don't think they'll even see through it. I actually only want to deduct half a star because I've already ordered another pair of these from the store. One size smaller, in a different color so she has at least one pair that fits exactly the way she wants. (Size 5T actually slides forward to show her boobs even when tied as tight as possible! I dressed them up to cover them like in the picture.) So they are very roomy! Clothing: extra soft, beautifully falling, slightly cuddly. I would buy the adult versions for myself if they were as great as the kids' ones! (Also I would like to know if adults have ways to tie them around the waist before I order.) Although I don't think she would wear them to the playground as they could snap when climbing and sliding. on rough gear, I think they would be great for other hot summer days! And although I didn't photograph them as pants on her, she insisted on wearing them as pants to bed straight away, and she looked just as adorable with a t-shirt as she did with a sweater. But they were very loose and I had to fold them a few times. For any sewing-loving parent, if she wears them more comfortably as pants, I may need to add loops and a drawstring at regular intervals to allow them to be pulled up. Just in case you want to buy them in a larger size as well. Hope this all helps!
