Great for attaching things to wood

We paid about $10 and saw price fluctuations at Revain. At this price point, they're great for attaching brackets to wood. They cut wood very easily.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Doubtful

Strong and light - screws in tape

you like these. I know they're specifically designed to work with a variety of cable ties/anchors, but I also use them on a lot of projects because they're great for self-propelling (no pilot hole) and won't slip or snap.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Not sure if

so overall disappointed.

Readjusting the Simpson rafter hangers required to loosen the low torque bolts, the bolts broke repeatedly, have to drill new holes and get to the HD and find something structurally stronger so overall disappointed.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • weak

Will not snap with 1/4 " hex drive

I like these Simpson structural screws. They won't snap and don't need pre-drilling because of the 1/4" hex drive. My impact wrench gets the job done much quicker. I'd love to find them locally, but I can always count on Revane to have them. We used these bolts on our rail fence with Simpson Strong Ties, making for a really strong rail.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Can't remember

Easier to bend than nails

Obviously I'm bad at driving 10 inch nails in a straight line so I bought these instead as recommended by my particular Simpson StrongTie product. Only certain products can use SD #9 without affecting the loading capacity, so be sure to visit the Simpson website. In any case, it is much easier than with nails. The box comes with a hex head so you can use a drill or impact tool.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Very high failure rate on pressure treated lumber

I have tried them on pressure treated boards and found a 30% failure rate on Simpson construction screws. They fail at the end of the threaded portion of the fastener. I used an 18v cordless drill to install the screws and the Simpson structural screw failed due to 5/16" of the screw remaining outside of the mount. I have used other Simpson structural screws in the past with no problems Structural connectors used but after all the failed screws and drilling new mounting holes to get around the…

  • Impressive

If you use Simpson mounts and hangers.

. but these screws. They come with Simpson gear like peas and carrots. I prefer them to nails as I have used both. They don't break off, they hold tight, and the hex head eliminates the horrible bolt head stripping that I really hate when using cheap frame bolts. I'll add that I prefer screws because my elbow is worn out and nailing isn't fun. general. Although I have a good nailing machine, I now only use screws for joist hangers and similar brackets.

  • Item Weight: 1.0 pounds
Cons

The tree doesn't work without them!

These construction screws are SUPER! The hex head makes them easy for my driver to hold and the screw pattern pulls the screw into even the oldest and toughest wood. Honest! I have never felt anything like this! I'm working on remodeling a house where wood has been standing for 40 years and nails are hard to hammer in without a gun. They go in like butter. I never thought I would fall in love with screw design! Even better, because they're load-bearing (and can handle shear loads much better…

Pros
  • Country of origin: USA
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen

Very high failure rate when working with pressure treated wood

I've tried using them on boards Simpson- Structural Bolts They will eventually fail I used an 18v cordless drill to install the bolts and the Simpson structural bolt failed due to 5/16" bolts remaining outside the bracket. I've had none in the past Problems have used other Simpson structural connectors but after all the failed bolts and drilling new mounting holes to get around the steel remaining in the board I will never use Simpson bolts again Luckily I have other higher quality mounting…
