I am pleased with this control arm assembly

This review is for the Dorman 520-223. This control arm looks almost exactly like the original equipment. It feels solid and has a good coating to prevent rust. This part has bushings and a ball joint and a new castle nut and cotter pin. I bought this lower arm/ball joint/bushing because all of the ball joints on my 99 Ford Explorer were worn out and it failed safety testing. Inspection. The repair service center quoted something in the mid to high $300 range for replacing just the bottom two ball joints. I don't know if the lower ball joints could be removed, but the upper ball joints could not be removed. I decided that if I had to buy new upper arms with integrated ball joints, I might as well buy forearms with ball joints. It's been about a year since I installed these levers and the car has passed two safety checks. I learned how to do this job on an online owner forum (explorerforum.com). In addition to the set of sockets and torque wrenches I already had, I needed and bought a left and right forearm block (of course), a jack, a pair of wheel chocks, a pair of jack stands, a regular 21mm head. , head 24mm deep, head 27mm deep, fork set, 4 lbs. Hammer, a can of Liquid Wrench and a can of brake cleaner. Rather than buying a special tool to remove the torsion bars, I installed a large deep socket in the jack shell to raise the torsion wedge and relieve pressure on the wedge bolt. During this work I also replaced the upper wishbones, shock absorbers (front and rear) and brake pads (front and rear). It took two days on the frontend and one day on the backend. I spent $230.03 (including tax) on just the forearm portion of the job. I reused most or all of the tools for additional work so the only additional cost was for spare parts. I saved some money and I have tools for future use.
