Review on ๐Ÿ“ธ Capture Stunning Shots with the Voigtlander 21mm f4 VM Colour Skopar Lens - A Must-Have for Photographers by Michelle Taylor

An amazing lens on film.

Yes limited to f/4 but at this focal length it absorbs light. I have no problem using it for what it was bought for, mostly street and documentary shooting. At f/8 or f/11 the focus range becomes perfect. Install it right and don't worry, you'll be protected from 3ft to infinity. Critical focus gives you even better results, and at f/4 and good distance separation you get nice bokeh. This is fairly distortion free for architecture, but gets even better with a little afterimage correction. The best aspect of this lens, aside from image quality, is its size (it's tiny) and build quality (not Leica quality, but damn close). I photograph it with film cameras, mostly Leica. M6, M4 and M3. With a .72 finder I never need an external finder as the total view is about 20mm. I image after parallax correction with VF focus spot for M3 or M4. On the M6 it pulls out 28mm and I use that as a guide when framing this body quite effectively. . This will give you a little more space in the final image. Crucially, I'd spend $200 on a viewfinder, but when I'm shooting outdoors or pretty much anything with this lens, I don't usually even get the camera to my eye. Just for portraits and frames as described works fine. I highly recommend this lens for cinema. I've used this on my M10 but with the digital design some of the design flaws don't sit well with the modern sensor design and mostly smearing in the corners.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Too long to wait
