Review on KG-UV6D Wouxun Two Way Radio by Sean Patel

Great radio at a great price

I've had this radio for a few months now. I don't understand the "difficult to program/poor management" comments. I had no problems programming from the keyboard. It works pretty much like my much more expensive Yaesu. In just a few minutes I closed the menu and connected the repeaters. I ended up getting the software and cable to make it faster and probably a must have for people like me who have a long list of frequencies they use. I have never bought a radio with software and cable unless it was a specialist dealer. One thing the software doesn't do is automate the offset like other ham software does. However, it's very easy to toggle from the radio and doesn't require a Vulcan stranglehold to put the radio into programming mode. The radio is absolutely silent and offers surprisingly good performance for the price. No, I don't like repeaters 100 miles away, but I can easily connect repeaters across town with the included antenna. I get good voice clarity reports all the time. The size is a bit thicker and larger than, say, a Dual Band Icon or a Yaesu handheld, but still not too big. The plastic body feels solid and impact resistant, just like any of the more expensive models. I highly recommend this radio. A great radio for this price range. Would I prefer the $350 tri-band symbol? Sure, but for those just starting out, or even the seasoned ham lover who needs an inexpensive hand, it couldn't be better.
