I have used a microcassette recorder as well as an older Olympus digital recorder for dictation and transcription in periodontics for the last 8 years. We were "forced" to push the technology for various reasons (transcription machine failure, poor sound quality, hiring of new microcassette machines). For me, the DS-2400 was intuitive, allowed multiple folders (so we could save different types of cases and loaded them into separate folders on our computer), had great sound quality, and was affordable. I am very happy with this purchase. Also a comment. Our office IT system is networked. One of the reviews for this recorder revealed that it does not work properly with networked computers. We don't have any problems with that at all. This is a great product.
