Fighting the Wet Look: Sperry Chelsea Jr Navy Boot Review

I ordered these boots for my 6 year old hoping for the best. We live in Seattle and she needs something durable, waterproof and cute for school. The boots arrived quickly and I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful dark blue color. However, when I opened the box, I found that they were too big for my child. A trip to the post office and a week later we finally had the right size. The second try went surprisingly well: the boots were easy to put on, they fit my little one perfectly and they kept her feet dry on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. At that moment I was smiling everywhere and so was she. Problem? We found out that the boots feature a new version of The Wet Look. As hard as the daughter tried to stay on her feet, she slipped and slid around the house in her boots. They are too slippery on the underside and resemble a banana peel when wet. Not suitable for children who like to run and play. To be fair, let me say that these boots are undeniably stylish. They look great and can spice up any winter outfit. However, if you are looking for practical footwear that will keep your child's feet warm, dry and secure, then this is not it. I end up feeling like I paid too much for a pair of boots that don't perform the way I want them to. If functionality is important to you and you don't want your child to slip like a seal, then these boots may not be for you.

Pros
  • They are so good, good quality but narrow, had to go back
Cons
  • Although these boots are water resistant, they may not be suitable for very cold or snowy conditions as they lack thermal insulation.
