Review on 🔪 Oerla TAC DE-0014 Camping and Outdoor Fixed Blade Knife - 420HC Stonewashed Stainless Steel Field Knife with G10 Handle, Waist Clip, EDC Kydex Sheath (Black) by Ryan Judy

So I have some expensive knives and some cheap knives too. As with most things, you can overspend or underspend, but getting more than what you paid for is always a very pleasant surprise, so I'm always willing to try a new (to me) brand to try. Here I would say that you get less than you pay for. It's more like a ten or fifteen dollar knife from some Chinese source on eBay. The scabbard, as others have pointed out, did not hold the knife at all. Since it's malleable when exposed to heat, I used a heat gun to soften it and improve the hold to an acceptable level. And yes, you could say you can expect that from a $30 knife, but when a knife maker gets it right, I don't expect bad bang for the buck. A bit sharp on arrival for the steel it is but it holds the blade well so that was good. Decent grip, but the knife in hand just plays less than spec. The usable area of the handle is actually only about three and a half centimeters, so it seems insignificant in a large hand. The useful length of the blade is about the same or a little longer, so the blades don't take that much work. I would have preferred a smaller and lighter knife of this size and for something more powerful I would have preferred a larger blade for more efficient woodworking. to play the role of your mighty knife. Not sure how long the belt mount will last - it seems to be a much thinner design than I'd like, although it works for amazing horizontal carry that stays out of your way but within reach. But again, due to the weight, this is hardly a knife I'd be happy to carry with me. The processing of the weights is decent enough and the knife feels good in the hand. I hope it's a $30 knife that looks more like a $50 knife than a $30 knife that isn't as decent as a $15 knife. I wanted to try this brand after reading some positive reviews but I don't see anything else from Oerla. I remember the first time I tried Civivi, who happened to be offering $50 knives that performed like their quadruple price counterparts. same or more. It was a big win. There isn't much here. Poorly fitting sheath, odd size and weight, just can't see where it fits in my backpack. This one seemed to be the most versatile and useful design of the many options - some of them just seem to be made to please the person looking for a "cool" knife to buy (and that's ok lol , I definitely did!) - - but I just don't feel it. As a basic utility knife I'd prefer something lighter including my great binder/pinball/utility options. How is your high performance knife? Too small, sorry, so weight and girth is wasted. To each their own, of course, but this one just didn't impress me. Bottom Line: When purchasing this knife, keep in mind its heavy weight and small size, and consider that the sheath will likely need modification to be effective. For less money, for a really "cheap" knife, I'd go for something else, just a basic fixed blade camping/utility knife. forty or fifty for something much better, but I don't like spending thirty bucks on it.
