Viscose fabric not cotton in the red version I received. Viscose is a nice cooling fabric, perfect for summer. After washing, it becomes softer and drapes well. It's good for the skin. As for the question about the design of the skirt: either this is a bad design, or something went wrong in the manufacture and here's why: the description of the skirt indicates a high waist or/or height. I'm 5.5ft, 120lbs average, typical female physique, but two holes in the waist are for a thicker waist. In order for this skirt to fit my natural waist, I would have had to make two extra holes on the inside of the waist to get a high waist. With two whole, like now, the skirt falls on my hips. The tie or ribbon attached to the skirt is too short, inevitably one ribbon has to wrap around the entire waist to match the other. It's almost impossible. If I make these two extra pieces to sit high at my natural waist, it still doesn't solve the oversized waist because, as many buyers have commented, the pleated seam portion would gather, making it bulky and unflattering. The skirt has another problem: because it tapers to a point with the bodice cut off (where the waist is), too little material has been put into this comfortable wrap skirt. Because the ruffles are tapered to the base of the skirt, hemming the ruffles streamlines the tapered shape, allowing you to really feel your skin, which makes you feel squashed in the pencil skirt. As a result, we cannot consider this product as a wrap skirt in which it is no longer comfortable to stand in, not just crouch, bend over or move freely. This viscose fabric's significantly more tapered neckline, trimmed ruffles and ties/tape sawn at the waist should match the wider edge of the tapered neckline to allow it to wrap comfortably around the waist. With a wider tapered base, it would then be possible to position the ruffle so that it does not constrict the body and appear to touch the skin in compression, as is the case now. I can only use it as an apron if I decide to keep it and take the time to modify the waist by making additional whole pieces. I agree with other buyers who have had the same reaction to this skirt. It's a shame that such a beautiful fabric could have been cut better. I hope that then the designer (manufacturer) will listen to the customers' comments and change the further cut of this beautiful fabric so that their skirt becomes one of the customers' favourites. According to the description it is cotton. The skirt I received is 100% viscose red for $21.99. As of now, no, I would not recommend purchasing this skirt unless the original design is modified per customer feedback and comments. There are other wrap skirts that Revain offer that fit best, sit on a natural waist and allow for freedom of movement.
