Protein quality is excellent. Going vegan means using a plant-based protein powder. It still has a slightly earthy flavor, but it's easy to get used to. The chocolate flavor also loses a lot of the earthiness compared to unflavored. Definitely worth a few bucks more. I typically mix 16 ounces of plant-based milk with 1-2 scoops of protein powder and blend in a blender for 5-10 seconds to mix thoroughly. It's also great with the addition of a tablespoon of natural peanut butter!
