Review on 🔷 SMALLRIG 95 to 114mm Threaded Adapter Ring: Enhance Matte Box Compatibility - 2661 by Scott Ward

This 2663 matte stem support is well built and looks good, but it's terrible when you want to make a quick lens change. This allows you to attach and detach it directly to the rods without having to remove other lures, but this flexibility comes at a huge price. If you remove it, you'll lose any pen adjustments that align the matte box with the lens. You can't move it forward, so every lens change requires a tedious recalibration process that feels like an eternity when you're shooting with a scope. Since there's no donut, you'll need to line it up perfectly to minimize light leakage. I could screw on the adapter ring, but I don't have the luxury of screwing it on every time I change lenses. I contacted SmallRig several times over the course of three weeks through their website and asked if they could sell me additional 77mm rings. Tilta sells rings for their Mini Matte Box for $7 each. SmallRig never had the decency to answer my emails. One more note, I'm not thrilled with the leverage they use to hold the flag, the Tilta's leverage is much better and is similar to the Bright Tangerine. Not sure if the flag will stay in place unless I tighten it beyond my comfort level, I think it might come loose. It's attached with a couple of screws so hopefully they can improve the design and just sell the lever. While I like the matte box for the dual slot capability, if I need to stack two filters I'll stick with my Tilta, Xume, and Round filter solution. Changing lenses is much faster and less complicated. They'll need to come up with a better donut wand mount and/or start selling these rings separately before I consider using the Smallrig Mattebox in real work. They replied several times asking me to check my junk folder. I checked and they are there. I'm not sure how the last email got through from the same address, but I'm glad it did. I still have the same concerns about the SmallRig 2663 and hope they come out with a redesign that makes it easier to change lenses quicker with a donut, but I'm raising my rating for their excellent customer service.
