This box is installed next to a load center I just installed flush to power my garage workshop. All wiring is surface mount, so I needed a way to route all cables "outside" the wall, into the wall, and into the load center. So I need a 6" deep junction box; about 4" of it could be inside the wall (so wires can be routed to the load center) and the remaining 2" would be sticking out on the outside of the wall where all the EMTs go through surface mount conduits This box was perfect, it allowed me to drill any extra holes I needed on the drill press without bending or warping (I only needed a step drill bit for steel), it provided plenty of room to fit all the cables to route properly, and its standard 1/16" thickness is a perfect match for the rubber grommets needed to protect wires in similar applications.
