I needed this to keep my kids from going in the bottom locker, Lazy Susan, where we keep candies and treats. It's very efficient. This weird closet door is a corner door with hinges in the middle, so my husband didn't install it properly at first and it could be opened without a key by wiggling it slightly, but that was the function of the weird door, not the product. If you try this on a similar door, you will need to install the latch mechanism on the half of the door that DOES NOT have a handle for it to work properly. My other caveat was that the design didn't allow it to be mounted on a box. This seems to apply to all of these castles, but I'm very upset about it. We had to source a huge pack of these and ended up only being able to use one.
