Review on πŸ”’ Dorman 931-400 Door Lock Actuator in Sleek Black Finish: Enhancing Security and Convenience by Lequon Kaneshiro

Same part as factory Toyota

Like my 7 year old son, my 2006 4Runner has recently started not doing what I'm asking it to do - in this case it didn't require my front driver's door. /unlocked. If you're looking at this part, you probably already know the symptoms: The door won't lock/unlock (or intermittently) when using the key fob or even the lock switch on the door panel. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, mostly not. Using the key in the door knob lock still works fine, but hey, it's 2013, who still uses the key to open their car door? If I'm running from zombies and need to get in my car quickly, I can't afford to mess with the key in the door lock. As far as the quality of the part is concerned, it is the same part that was fitted to your vehicle. Car when it was built at the Toyota plant, manufactured by Aisin, which specializes in assembling parts for the automotive and energy industries. The part had all the same markings as the original and fitted just as perfectly as the original. You'll most likely be making the replacement yourself, which means you're a do-it-yourselfer, so don't worry. Well, I'll give you a tip that may help you: When installing a new part, remove the door lock. This part has a door lock rod that goes into the receiver and trying to insert this part without removing the door lock was almost impossible. There should be a rubber cap at the end of your door which you can remove exposing a hex head screw which you can then remove so you can pull the latch mechanism out of the doorknob. Do this. This will free you from curses. Anyway, this part is top notch, you'll have fun installing it, and when you're done you can confidently run to your car with a horde of zombies chasing after you (mind you, slow zombies, not the fast ones from War Worlds Z, these things are scary) and know your car door is about to open. Hmmm, but now that I think about it, why would you lock your doors when the zombie apocalypse is coming? Zombies can't open doors, and if other uninfected people were around and they wanted your car, they'd just smash the window, right? Shit, my whole hilarious comment associating that door lock motor with its ability to save your life during a zombie apocalypse just fell apart. ****UPDATE: October 6th, 2016**** After almost 2 years of trouble free operation, the unit is starting to fail just like the original. I'm deducting a star from my rating. Rather than just buying this unit again, I did a little more research and found that instead of replacing the entire unit, just the motor in the unit can be replaced at a fraction of the cost. In my specific case (2006 Toyota 4Runner) the required engine part number is FC-280PC-22125 ($10). I recently did a similar engine swap on my friend's Toyota Sienna minivan and it worked great. I received the engine in a few days and will make sure everyone knows how well it runs. Big. Replacing the motor in the actuator was a little cumbersome - you don't have to remove the entire cover. You can remove the side latches in the corner where the electrical plug is and open just that corner to slide out the old motor and insert the new one. hold your old one in your hand and look at it. trust me you can do it. A friend helped me a lot. The drive is running like clockwork again!
