Review on πŸ–ŒοΈ Cretacolor Oil Pencil Drawing Set - Tin Box with 6 Oil Pencils - Multi-Colored by Jennifer Roberts

Unique, high quality, soft, oily pens!

I love these oil pens! I collect and use all kinds of art pens and find them quite unique. I wish Cretacolor would expand their range! I can't think of any others exactly like this. Lyra Rembrandt makes a collection of 12 'Art Specials', most of which are charcoal-crayon type pencils, but one of the pencils in this set, labeled 'Red chalk 300', is an oil pencil that is very similar. (It's also my favorite of the set!) That being said, I'd say the Derwent crayons are the most similar, but the texture definitely isn't. They are not as greasy as these and feel more like clay. (I really like them too, by the way!) When I ordered these pencils, I wondered if they would only be brown, black, and white versions of oil color pencils like Lyra Polycolor, Faber-Castell Polychromos, or Karan D'Ache Pablo. The answer is no! They are softer and oilier than any of the above and easier to use for quick sketches. They can also be used for meticulous detail drawings. They are very versatile, at least within the confines of a limited palette. These pencils have a very short tip. I prefer a long tip and so far these pens have performed very well. (Some very soft pencils break when sharpened with a long point.) Thank you Cretacolor! Please make more colors!
