Review on Brother SA126 Narrow Foot Black by Morgan Gilmore

Working but not perfect

Like others I had to go through a few tutorials and practice to master this foot. I don't actually consider this a "negative" because it happens every time you learn a new instrument! Even after 30+ years of sewing, I still look forward to putting the time and effort into learning a new foot because every foot is a new breed of animal! With this foot you can hem the fabric over the entire length. The first few inches just won't be right because this foot needs enough fabric to pull it out of the back of the foot before it can sew it in the twisted position. It doesn't matter how you manipulate the ends of the threads, flip the fabric, or anything else. Only a decent amount of fabric needs to be skipped before he can sew the fabric in the folded position. So you have a few options: 1.) Cut a piece of fabric 2 inches or so wider than you need. (This works for example for a pleated insert for a doll dress - just add the extra width, hem with one foot, then trim the excess at the beginning of the hem - and do this before assembling the dress!) 2. ) Open the misplaced stitch from the first few inches, press down on the fabric and sew with a regular machine foot to mimic the rest of the hem (note that this method will not work if you are using fabric that retains the holes that were made than sewing so I would look for a patch first!) pry bar and then you can easily unhook or cut the pry bar afterwards. Once you've surpassed the first few inches, this will really result in a nice tiny hem. I did a test where I marked a few carefully measured straight lines and after sewing the edges I found that her edge lines up perfectly with these marked lines - meaning that once you get started has a very even edge which is great! Overall I give this leg 4 out of 5 stars. Personally, I use it when I'm dealing with things like long panels (e.g. for a pleated skirt) but when dealing with small things (like a small, fitted doll skirt) I think it's best Skip this section for these tasks.
