This little $25 tool saved me several hundred dollars.

So right after posting - glad I bought it, does exactly what I needed, highly recommend. Now for the background story: I had a broken footboard on one of my truck's footpegs. Of course, the pads themselves cannot be replaced. You have to replace the whole pole - and they don't sell them individually, do they? No they don't. And plastic cracks don't get better with age, they get worse. So I thought of repairing the houses or spending a few hundred dollars on a new staircase and installing them if I couldn't do it myself. The hero is this little plastic welding kit for $25. Very easy to use and comes with everything you need to do some repairs like mine or some even bigger repairs. Again very easy to use. So my step bar is as strong as new. Does it look like new - no, of course it looks patched. But is the repair strong enough to be reliable and last a long time - yes, of course. I wiped the crack and area around with alcohol wipes. Then polish with a metal brush from the kit. I then cut out a piece of the included metal shield to cover the crack and about a half inch around. Then I let the tool preheat as instructed and used it to melt the metal shield into the base plastic of the footplate to become an integral part. I then used the included plastic "welding rod" to fill in any gaps and smooth the repair area to a smooth blend and thickness. So the crack is now a steel reinforced welded section of plastic. It has cooled evenly and is now as or as strong as the plastic around it. I'm sure there is a way to improve the look a bit, but to be honest as this is a piece meant to be stepped on and dirty I don't mind that it looks really patched up. I just need him to be strong, which he is now. In short, this little $25 tool is very easy to use, comes with everything you need to get the job done, and I can safely say it saved me several hundred dollars the first time I used it. I recommend it.
