Review on 🔊 Compact Stereo Integrated Amplifier and DAC - Micca OriGain, 50W x 2, 96kHz/24-Bit, USB & Optical S/PDIF (Black) by Michele Martin

I was looking for a high quality, yet compact speaker system for my PC. (I'm sick of buying low-end, PC-designed all-in-one speakers like Logitech, Klipsch, and many others; they may sound decent for a while, but problems soon arise.) Mikka is constantly mentioned and highly regarded in many "cheap audiophile" and "cheapest" audio gear reviews from around the web. OriGain AD250 delivers on those promises. It really seems to be one of the best compact amps for the price. Superb build quality and attention to detail, especially at this price point. Ditto for my MB42X speakers and presumably all Micca products. Mine was paired with Micca MB42X speakers and a Dayton Audio SUB-800 subwoofer. It all sounds fantastic together and offers a quality stereo setup, especially if size is an issue. The brain of the AD250 consists of a Texas Instruments TPA3116D2 Class-D amplifier, a Wolfson WM8740 DAC and a C-MEDIA CM6510B USB interface. Nice solid steel construction with clear and simple port and function markings. Large volume and power control with clear machined display. Slim red LED power indicator. Satisfactory and simple toggle switches for selecting audio inputs. Extremely useful "pre-out", perfect for connecting a subwoofer. Includes all cables needed to get started (optical cable not included and not essential). I can gladly recommend this product. Well done Mike. As previously mentioned, if there was a place for a headphone output, the OriGain would be really great. I also appreciate that all the necessary information about the product is presented clearly and neatly in the first class manual and the descriptions and photos on Revain (and hopefully soon on the Miccatron website, the product page is not available yet but they will send the manual). in pdf format). Speaker output: binding posts (5-way), stereo. Frequency response: 20Hz - 20kHz. Distortion (THD): less than 0.5%. Input power: 24V 4.75A external power supply. Dimensions: 5.5 x 3.5 x 1.5 inches (L x W x H, rounded). Weight: 2 pounds. Colour: Black (and even more black). Defect: My first OriGain AD250 was partially defective. After some research and testing (phase, imaging, hooking up other speakers) it turned out that a set of speaker terminals on the OriGain was reversed, resulting in an "out of phase" sound. This is especially noticeable with sources that contain a strong stereo or 3D image (video games, etc.). Find a phase test (e.g. on AudioCheck.net) to check this properly. Simply reversing the polarity for just one speaker fixed the phase but other issues bothered me and Mikka wanted to inspect the unit and seemed genuinely concerned with the issue. The replacement was delivered very quickly and works great (no fees, trust exchange only, with bare units sent by mail order and returned). Only one star removed due to this issue due to the excellent customer support. It has now come to my attention that Micca (Official Micca Distributor) seems to have temporarily stopped selling this product. However, I'm enjoying my OriGain and the new speaker setup more every day and I hope Mikka can easily fix some of these weird issues.
