Strange landline design

I've had this phone for about 18 months now. It survived well and during the time we were using the phone its battery had no problems, only when I was on the phone for more than 1 hour I see problems, if at all. I heard the low battery beep 2 or 3 times. In this case, I use my wired phone. Otherwise, setting the clock for the answering machine becomes problematic (it also forgets the time if you turn off the power for more than 5 minutes), but it's good to have multiple answering machines if you have roommates. The only major complaint I have is that the volume fluctuates and it's impossible to hear people at times. However, I'm starting to think it's only for my phone. It's just a manufacturer error. Another downside is that the speaker/talkback buttons return some bass. For example, to speak to someone on the speaker, press the speaker. and to talk to someone normally, press "talk". It sounds good, but on every other phone I've touched, you've pressed speaker to turn it on and pressed speaker to turn it off. Instead, the phone hangs up. but I think you get used to it after a while. Not a bad phone, just annoying with volume issues.
