I mostly use cup brushes made of crimped or knotted wire for aging wood or grinding rust. If you age the wood by aggressively sanding the grooves in the wood with a wire brush, you can't sandpaper afterwards to smooth out the burrs and chips. This is where a nylon cup brush comes in handy. Nylon grinds gently but not flat. It will grind it in the grooves without removing any more wood. All burrs are gone. In addition, you can also use this nylon brush to remove paint or finish on curved wood as it easily gets into the grooves without being too abrasive. You will need a variable speed angle grinder as the speed should not exceed 2500rpm or the nylon will melt. Great tool but too expensive. Harbor Freight sells wire brushes for $5.
