My PC only has one 10/100 ethernet card and I had no intention of taking it apart. It has plenty of USB ports so it seems like a good inexpensive solution until I have to buy a new computer. My internet speed is listed as 1gps and I can measure that I get 1g speed very reliably over wifi on my latest iPhone. I figured it was a legal risk solution to increase my PC's throughput. The bad news is that all of my USB ports are USB 2.0, so I'm not getting 1G speeds. However, USB 2.0 is much faster than 100 megabytes. It was really plug and play on my Windows 10 PC, although it took quite a while until the old lady downloaded the driver 5-8 minutes or so before it finally connected. I checked for a newer driver in Device Manager and it actually found it, so I had to wait another 5 minutes to download and install it. After that everything went great. As I mentioned, all of my USB ports are 2.0, so I was curious as to how much actual throughput I could get. When I use the Ookla Speeddest app on a PC, I average around 240 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload, which is well within USB 2.0 standards and my ISP's limitations. In any case, most websites don't send you data that much faster. I want to say that it still makes sense to use this gadget, if you have an old computer. It extends the life of your machine and relieves headaches associated with buying and setting up a new computer.
