Short cord is the weak link

From a functional point of view it actually worked very well. However, there were concerns about the USB cable from the start. Of course, after about 9 months of use, the USB cable became intermittent. The Ethernet connection kept dropping. Tests have shown that moving/twisting the USB cable right where it enters the interface box can make or break an Ethernet connection. The cable is very short and will be stressed when connected to a long Category 5 cable and also when folded into a storage…

Chromebook + Ethernet + Superfast Internet

My son and I are both at home. We're both online ALL day and our virtual meetings always hang up, so we had to make phone calls to chat and then see everyone on the computer. what a mess. He has a Chromebook and we found this gadget on the internet that allows you to connect to an Ethernet network. The computer wifi speed was only 210, once connected to it it went up to 420. I danced the happy dance. It's worth every penny! I even bought a new router thinking that was the problem (a lot of…

The adapter is good, but the activity LED is annoying

Really good power adapter for your Macbook. I have a 2015 MBP with Sierra and it worked plug and play with no drivers. The default setting in Network Control is DHCP, so it's ready to use. The design is really beautiful. The foldable cable feels sturdy and helps cut out the clutter. The reason I give it 4 stars is because of the super bright LED activity indicator. It's right on the device so you can see it in your peripheral vision while you work. I had to tape it down so it wouldn't be…

Works well on Linux with built in driver

This USB 1GBit nickname works well on Linux. Uses the RTL8153 chipset, so the driver is integrated. Works so far for USB network adapter

So far this product works exactly as it should and I went from 500mbps to gig. Like many other people, this thing plugs in and works. My experience with Windows 10: Due to the fact that I almost never move my laptop from place to place and due to feedback that the cable can be delicate, I left it connected to the network. So I doubt I'll run into any problems with this particular part of this product. On first use it also didn't come back after fully shutting down and restarting the laptop…

TP-Link tech support did NOT get it to work on a Windows 8.0 laptop

I'm a computer consultant with many years of experience. I figured this TP-Link Foldable USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter (UE300) would be an easy implementation. Not correct! I just went through a very time consuming process to try to get it working on my Windows 8.0 machine. The adapter should be "Plug and Play" for my version of Windows (and many others). That didn't work for me. I tried using TP-Link online chat for technical support. I followed their instructions to…

It works! Even on USB 2.0.

My PC only has one 10/100 ethernet card and I had no intention of taking it apart. It has plenty of USB ports so it seems like a good inexpensive solution until I have to buy a new computer. My internet speed is listed as 1gps and I can measure that I get 1g speed very reliably over wifi on my latest iPhone. I figured it was a legal risk solution to increase my PC's throughput. The bad news is that all of my USB ports are USB 2.0, so I'm not getting 1G speeds. However, USB 2.0 is much faster…

Works well with Linux and Raspberry Pi

If you're using Raspbian, the old 4.19 kernel uses the old cdc_ether driver to run it, which can be problematic. You need to add a file to /etc/modprobe.d so the r8152 driver can talk to it. In the current 5.4 kernel on Raspbian it is plug and play. plug it in and bam, eth1. Presumably this will work the same on an x86 box. You may not need 5.4, this is just a simple test for me. It definitely works, and whatever happens next should definitely work. A nudge may be required for earlier kernels…

Think disposable and replace every 3-4 months

Now I'll update my review again. Technical support was useless. I spent four hours contacting tech support (first with my ISP, then my PC manufacturer, then TP-Link) to no avail - for a product that costs around $12. GMAB. -- Oh, they will replace him if I agree to spend another hour going through the complex "registration" steps and then follow them. I'm not willing to do that for a $12 item. I'm trying a different brand this time. I'm updating my rating. It's been four months (to date) since…
