We have a Crested Geko and we used to worry about it more and more during the winter months - as it gets cold in our house at night. We've had it for a few months now and it works great. It doesn't overheat or add significant heat to their living space (we have an internal thermometer). This is a large size. It takes up less than 1/4 of the terrarium (12 x 12 x 18). She still has plenty of room to hide when she wants to cool off or drain. Sometimes we catch her hanging around. Even crickets jump on it, which should confirm that the heat is very mild. I could remove it for the summer months and just add it back when the weather changes again next fall. If you live in a cold area, you should consider buying it.
