Finally got it.

I finally figured out how they make the spider wall structure that was so popular in the 80's. I have used it for a small renovation when I renovate my house. The bristles become soft after getting wet and do not fall out. Use a very thin (liquid) putty. Much better results than other things I've tried like sponges and crumpled paper.
