It cannot be used without cutting or melting the molding. The 3rd middle rubber piece has an additional molding around the middle button that also needs to be scraped off. Buy a new whole unit for $10 or so instead of manually manipulating them to fit your board. It was really easy to fix, 2 minutes with a sharp razor to cut out the wrong molding. At the time I was more angry than sane, after all it's no big deal, just annoying for sure.
