Major design changes?

After 21 wet winter seasons, we found that our Aprilaire 560 was not up to the task this year. We quickly determined that no water was getting onto the water panel and promptly ordered an Aprilaire OE replacement. The first thing we noticed was that the part appears to have been heavily redesigned - instead of a solid brass body, the new block is a lighter cast. However, there were no issues installing it, which was reassuring. I noticed that the size of the "hole" of the replacement does not match the original - the original has a 3/32" hole and the new one is 3/64". I hazard a guess that this was done to make the replacement suitable for a wider range of devices, or it could be an attempt to make the device more efficient in terms of water usage. Contacted Research Products/Aprilaire for an answer. I'd happily pay $37 for a replacement that has been rebuilt just as badly as the original - see photo of the disassembled unit - that will last another 20+ years. The new device looks like many cheaper ones priced at $18-$20. I hope this is a genuine Aprilaire piece and not just some cheap knockoff that gets an extra 100% markup for no reason.
