Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ OTC 3650 Heavy-Duty Remote Starter Switch for Enhanced SEO by Patrick Keita

Almost the best ignition starter

I bought this in 2020 to help rebuild a 30 year old mustang 67 with sleeper. I needed something to crank the car to find top dead center and start the engine while starting the wiring harness replacement. Out of the box it looks well made. The clamps are very strong and the push button switch is of good quality. The wires also appeared to be thick and capable of handling large amounts of current. Last year I noticed that the derailleur got hot when cranking the engine several times. I was able to start the car with the starter switch at least half a dozen times. This year I connected the switch to the positive battery post and the other end to the starter side of the magneto, just like last year the car turned but not in the way a car with a fresh Optima 920cc battery should. The engine started very slowly and then died. Immediately the switch started smoking and I quickly lowered it, it got so hot I didn't want to burn my hand. I quickly removed the clips and waited for the switch to cool. Upon inspection, I noticed that the rubber cover that covers the switch is now a very loose fit where it used to be snug. I also noticed a strong burning smell. After the switch cooled, I was curious to see if it would work. I checked the battery charge and reconnected the switch. The LED does not light up and pressing the starter button did nothing. Overall, this switch worked flawlessly for my last year, but this year it didn't even get any real use before it failed. So this transition lasted barely 9 months. I bought it last August and worked on the car until November. At the end of May I started working on the project again. When I originally bought this switch I wanted something with decent quality that would at least outperform the latest design. Unfortunately, everything seems to be disposable these days. So in summary it worked well 6-8 times when I used it last year, not so much this year. Overall I give one star. I bought it for about $43, 8 runs cost me about $5 per run.
