Our 9-month-old son has Down's Syndrome, so his oral motor skills are a bit retarded and his tongue sticks out a little. I am a child occupational therapist, so I know about nutritional issues. I needed a good spoon to inject solids and work on stimulating oral motility and this OXO spoon is amazing! I like the silicone coating that makes it comfortable to bite and chew. The spoon's bowl is deep enough to hold food, but not so deep that he can't close his lips. The size is perfect for a small mouth but still holds plenty of solids. The flat tip for wiping food residue around the mouth is awesome. I also like that it has a long comfortable handle with a good tilt angle. I can continue to hold back and help him while he holds the spoon and brings it to his mouth. I've tried different types of baby spoons and really thought I needed to buy something more special, but this one is perfect. I bought the navy color and had no blemishes or discoloration. I cook all of his meals and he mostly eats what we eat so I can't vouch for the typical "baby food" but this spoon is great for thick, thin and mixed foods. Oatmeal, pudding, fried rice, he does it all. I have recommended it to several early intervention therapists and friends. This spoon is suitable for both a normally developing child and a child with special needs!
