Review on Monroe Reflex Truck Shock Absorber 911299 by Faten Teller

Installation is difficult! for spares

Great hits. Monroe makes a quality product and they have absolutely ZERO control over how difficult it is to install rear shocks on DS bodied Ram trucks. If you are installing it on a DS body (09-18 Ram 1500), be aware that the shock's top bolt and nut are poorly designed and a bit awkward. You're going to have a very hard time doing this unless you have either a 21mm button-end wrench or a 21mm wrench that you have or want to shorten to about 4.5 inches overall. The problem is that the top mount uses a bolt and nut. that is not a captive nut or threaded hole. This is a regular nut that must be held with a wrench to remove. Unfortunately, the nut is set in a channel that doesn't allow for a shallow nut on a ratchet (the bolt sticks out too far to catch the nut), a deep nut on a ratchet (the channel is slanted leaving no room for the whole socket and ratchet) or a regular sized wrench (the channel is bricked on both sides and the bottom of the bed does not allow access from above). I discovered this the hard way when the truck was airborne and had to run to the parts store and buy the cheapest 21mm spanner they had and then cut it with an angle grinder. Thing is, I tested the 21mm sickle wrench and found it worked too. The ec on both bolts is 100lbf so using a 4" pin wrench will not make reinstalling easy.
