
You should definitely have a SRAM rear derailleur. The incompatibility is in the ratio. I think my Shimano derailleur and most others are 2:1 and SRAM is 1:1. I was able to shift Shimano with these levers, but it was excruciatingly difficult and each click skipped a gear. I opted for a cheap SRAM X.4 rear derailleur and the problem was solved. Everything works perfectly. My derailleur is Shimano and had no trouble shifting. The switches are almost all plastic, but for the money it's normal.
