I'm 21 years old and need a longboard to get around campus and relax. I preferred a board to a bike because the board is much more portable (i.e. fits in a car). I've always loved board sports (skateboarding, snowboarding, kayaking) so I decided it was time to get my first longboard. I did a little research and compared the parts to the longboard my friend bought from Target and a number of other longboards here at Revain. He pulled the trigger, not knowing what to expect. Here is my impression of the record: Soundboard: The soundboard was the perfect size for me. I'm 6ft 0", longer than average limbs/legs and currently around 190lbs. It has a bit of flex which I was uncomfortable with at first for fear the board would break (and that I would break something with it) but that fear goes away as you get more comfortable. Skateboards generally don't have this level of board flex due to the shorter wheelbase. Good hold at the top. The bottom has a few bumps and imperfections in the finish. but nothing a week or two of regular use wouldn't do. I understand that too, because this isn't a "professional" board, so I expect quality, but obviously not the best. The only problem is that the tail and nose are tiny. Despite having a longer wheelbase relative to the size of the board, carrying the board on 2 wheels is difficult. me, so I tightened the kingpins a bit. And then solved them. And then pulled her up. It took me maybe 5 minutes to find my preferred stiffness where I don't feel shaky and can still turn. I went down a few hills and felt stable after the first two runs where I was a little scared that I didn't know how fast I was going to go and if I could handle the speed. Again I'm new but I figured it out. I tried to make tighter turns by shifting my body weight to one side/edge of the board but I kept falling. I will attribute it to the fact that I am new to this area and not blame the board. Wheels: Wheels appear to be of decent quality, like trucks, although trucks are of better quality. Again, not cheap, but not the best quality either. Respectable. Average or slightly above average, I wouldn't say below average. Maybe later I'll switch the wheels to Shark Wheels. But the camps were terrible. I took the advice of another reviewer and bought the Bones Redz for about $10 (no spacers, spacers already included). Enormous improvement of the standard bearings, even without damaging them. It's a shame that compromises are made here. Now that they're incorporated, I get a lot more distance with each click. To summarize: - All board components are average or slightly above average except for the bearings which are terrible. I'm new to longboarding, this is my first longboard and I'm buying it online with no real external guide, so I didn't want to spend more money without knowing the best board to buy. I couldn't find a cheaper pre-assembled board, not on eBay. Nothing about this board surprised me, but that's only because I had realistic expectations. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and I don't think you can find a better board for $49. If it came with a decent set of bearings I wouldn't have to replace it I would give it 5 stars. Edit 1: It's been 2 weeks and I've cleaned the bearings I bought the first time and replaced the wheels. with Shark wheels (70 mm 78A Ghost Formula). I've been riding it for 2 days and although I didn't like the new wheels at first, I changed my mind after seeing how much faster I can go, how far I can coast and how I don't get stuck. for cracks that would have tripped me up on my other wheelset. I also ordered a pair of Caliber II 50 degree trucks and am expecting better handling as they are 40 degree trucks. I still love the board. Edit 2 (1/3/2019): I've spent dozens of hours on this board so far. Now I have other longboards but this one is my favorite. The deck, while not of the highest quality, remains the only original part of the board. I still stand by my claim that it costs money; If you want a true professional longboard you need to spend at least $150 just for the deck itself. With that money I bought a pair of Caliber II trucks for $35, a set of Shark Wheels for $45 or $40 (can't find the receipt), and Bones Red bearings for about $10. These 3 elements, especially together, will transform how the board works and respond to more than just the deck. Just food for thought.
