Because the leash was only enough for a week. Little Boo, a Portuguese Water Dog puppy, was once chewing on a large strip when I was tying a leash on my other dog. It only took him about 45 seconds to rip the skin so badly that I feared if he pulled it he'd snap the thing in half and he'd run down our street and possibly onto the freeway.
