If a chair lasts 5 years, it's a good chair. I can sit at my desk up to 14 hours a day, seven days a week. I do IT support, and even when I'm not working, I sit in my chair at my desk and wait for a call. I own a company and have an office and my office is quite nice so I spend a lot of time in it whether I'm working or not. It is on my property in a self contained building and from there I handle all the networking, entertainment etc for the main house. So when I'm not working, I often sit at my desk and watch a movie or TV show on the 60-inch screen. plasma monitor. I also have two herniated discs and two herniated discs in my back from a marine casualty many years ago. It is important that my desk has a very good chair. I'm in this chair a lot. I'm 6ft tall and 230lbs so the chair wears out a lot over time. The last chair I had was the Office Star Space chair and it was a good chair for about 2.5 years. Then it started falling apart and I started making warranty claims to replace defective parts (warranty was 5 years). The vinyl armrests failed twice and the seat/base panel that holds the seat together broke in half. It lasted a full 5 years with an exchange under guarantee, but the manufacturer Office Star got smart and canceled the guarantee (simply changed it and denied the original guarantee) on all soft and vinyl components, i.e. when the armrests fell apart again. It's time to find a new chair that is NOT an Office Star product. I made a lot of purchases. I don't like buying chairs and I don't want to buy a chair that doesn't do what I want. It took almost two months from the moment I decided I needed a new chair to the moment I ordered this Serta. I shopped for office furniture, browsed office furniture websites on the internet, sat down on chairs, and did just about anything a person could do when choosing the next chair. The reason I told you everything in the first paragraph is so you understand how important it is to me to have a good chair. I am telling you about it so that you will understand how carefully I went about choosing this chair. I ordered this chair, it arrived and I assembled it today. I knew it would be comfortable because I sat in the same chair at Office Depot, but they asked $100 more for that chair than I paid for it. If I hadn't found this one cheaper on Revain (or another online store) I would have gone back to the store and paid another $100 as all the chairs I've sat in on Serta have been the most comfortable. love this chair. It's one of the most comfortable chairs I've ever sat in at a desk, maybe the most comfortable. It adjusts the tilt tension, tilt lock, height and lumbar support, and rotation. The lumbar support is particularly good, with a small knob on the right side of the seat that you can turn to increase or decrease the support mechanism in the back. I'm a pretty tall guy and this chair is rock hard. There is no wobbling or shifting or anything else in this chair. I can only assume that the reviewer who reported the chair was "weak" was either too heavy to rate this chair, misassembled it, or gotten a lemon. Or some or all of these defects together. The construction of this chair is not fragile when properly assembled. Follow the included instructions for proper assembly. The instructions are easy to understand and sufficient to assemble the chair properly. I had to use a magnifying glass but my eyes aren't what they used to be, most people can probably read the instructions without a problem. They are written clearly and in correct English, so that the Chinese or whoever is responsible for the instruction manual understood it correctly. Which is unusual for things made in China these days. Tighten the screws as far as possible without stripping the threads or twisting the head. It is very important that each chair is assembled as tightly as possible to avoid unwanted play of the parts. Things shouldn't move when you assemble such a chair, they should never move after you assemble and use the chair. If you start to wobble or wobble, tighten it again or it will break. I used a wrench, ratchet with a reasonably sized hex screwdriver instead of the small wrench that comes with the chair. There is Loctite on the screws which activates when the screws are tight and tight. The greater the thread tension, the stronger the Loctite will be. I don't know if they used genuine "Locktite" brand threadlocker, but the threadlocker color is red. If it's real Locktite, the red is a permanent threadlocker that needs to be heated with a torch to release it. Basically you have to melt it down to free it. If this is that screw lock, make sure you tighten everything the first time or you will run into trouble sooner or later. One of the main reasons I bought this chair, besides the comfort factor, is the 10 year guarantee. . Comfort is nothing if the chair is short lived, durability is nothing if the chair is uncomfortable. There is no good in a strong chair that is not comfortable, or a comfortable chair that is broken. Those two things, comfort and durability, are the hallmarks of a really good chair. These two qualities make this chair worth its price or not. I don't write a review on something like this and then forget about it. If there is anything to add I will come back and edit this review. So if it doesn't last long, find out by reading my edits. If you don't see any changes to this review then rest assured that the chair is fine and holding up well from the date I posted this review to the date you read it.
