I like the regular buckle, the strap with holes to allow for growth, plus an elastic inset for escape in case the collar becomes entangled. I like this better than a breakaway snap buckle with the strap threaded through it, requiring re-threading to extend. Just re-buckling into a different hole is so much easier. The collar stays on unless the elastic is stretched, compared to a breakaway buckle that can easily become unsnapped. I don't know yet how long the elastic will retain its stretch in months or years of use, but it seems that if it is not stretched regularly it should last a long while. This collar fits my 3.5 pound kitten when buckled in the smallest hole. I tried the second smallest, but she got her lower teeth caught in it, so be sure the collar is snug enough. Check snugness frequently if using for a kitten -- they grow fast.
