Review on ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Inkbird ITC-1000F All-Purpose Digital Temperature Controller With 2 Relays - Fahrenheit/Centigrade Thermostat for Refrigerator and Fermenter by Joseph Hall

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great for sous vide and home brewing

This review is for the ITC-1000F "Inkbird" Controller versus the MH1210F "Docooler" Controller. I had to return the first part. When I first ordered one of the orange clips was missing. They couldn't just send me the orange clip so it was refunded in full. In the meantime I have ordered a second device via Prime, so the downtime was only 2 days. The ITC-1000F is a 2-stage temperature controller, meaning it can heat and cool at the same time using 2 different sides of a standard power outlet. This differs from the MH1210F controller (single stage) which can only heat OR cool but not both. Otherwise, the controllers are almost identical in their function. In heating mode, the controller turns on when the temperature is lower than the set temperature and turns off when it exceeds it. In cooling mode, it turns on when the temperature is above the set temperature and turns off when it is below. There are additional variables (e.g., time lag, grade difference), but they are not relevant to this review. The ITC-1000F is a more functional controller and can switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit display. Since the price is the same, I recommend the ITC-1000F over the MH1210F. I originally designed the MH1210F as a sous vide box with a slow cooker and it works great for that purpose, but I ended up gifting it to my brother. I used the ITC-1000F in a smaller box for the second version as you can see in the photos. In case you were wondering, both boxes are from Radio Shack (7x5x3" and 6x4x2"), so grab one before they close for good. The smaller size is as small as the case you can use for all the wiring you need (mine is wired so the left outlet cools and the right heats). A NOTICE. The smaller box was difficult to connect, so proceed at your own risk. -1000F: 2 stage, F/C degree display, thicker temp probe and wire, horn MH1210F: 1 stage, F display only, thinner probe and wire, simpler wire connections are less visible (MH1210F is bad), hence my cleaning instructions here. @ (Power) button - Switch on/off / Confirm setting value / Save and exit Up button - Show temperature setting / Set up menu / Increase value Down button - Show difference setting / Set down menu / Decrease value S button - Menu set / select setting / save setting value In normal operation, press up once to display the set temperature value and press down once to display the difference value. Press and hold @ for 3 seconds to turn off. Press and hold @ for 1 second to turn on. When the temperature is less than or equal to the set temperature minus the set difference, the thermal relay closes and the heating indicator lights up. When the temperature equals the set temperature, the heater relay opens and the heater indicator goes off. When the temperature is greater than or equal to the set temperature plus the set difference, the cooling relay closes and the cooling indicator lights up. If the refrigeration indicator is flashing, the refrigeration relay will not close for the programmed time (to protect the refrigerator's compressors). Press S for 3 seconds to enter the settings menu. Use the arrow keys to select a setting, then press S to change it and press the arrow keys to change values. Press S to save and @ to save and exit the menu settings. TS - Set temperature from -50F to 210F, default 50FCF - Switch to Celsius or Fahrenheit CA - Calibrate from -15F to 15F, default 0FPT - Compressor delay from 0 to 10 minutes, default 3 minutes DS - Differential setting from 1F to 30F, default 3FChanging CF resets all settings to default. ER will be displayed and an alarm will sound if the probe is disconnected or shorted. Press any button to turn off the alarm. The display will show HL and an alarm will sound if the measured temperature exceeds the maximum operating temperature. Press any button to turn off the alarm.
