- First, get some flushable litter. It'll be everywhere, but it really makes it a lot easier and will save you a lot of plumbing headaches later. Once your cat gets used to using the device regularly, use less and less litter. One major hurdle I encountered, however, is that by their very nature they require space for scratches. Make sure they have enough junk to give them that feeling, but always insist on less. Trays have those pesky little ridges that are hard to clean. After your cat has done its thing, simply dump everything down the toilet and flush the litter box. Trying to clean the litter box to save on some waste isn't worth the hassle. After going through the whole process I didn't even rummage through the whole bag - Rinse and clean after every visit. You won't go to the same place twice if it's not clean and end up going somewhere else. This is true even after they are fully trained to be clean. Don't expect to be able to leave her alone for a few days. - *Remember what I said about scratches? When your home has carpet floors like mine, it's a lot more tempting for them to move on. If you can't lift the rugs, put something on them to keep them from scratching. I used a chair mat and some thin plywood. Cardboard works too. If they have a corner they like to go to, barricade it with crates. - Praise them every time they get it right by leaving cat treats in places where they had an accident. They will start to realize that they don't want to poop where they eat. I started training my kitten as early as possible. They recommend 3 months. It wasn't until my cat got bigger that he could really lean like a tripod and use his tail for support. He really should have figured it out himself, so take your time. If they go bad, you have to take a step back. After all, it took me 8 months to train my cat, but now he hardly ever has any accidents. I thought there was no plan B. Turning to the tray was not an option. I'd either have to keep coming up with clever ways to find out, or correct his mistakes for the rest of his cat years. I'm so glad I stuck with it. and I never thought that the sight of small poo in the toilet would give me so much pleasure. Even the day you broke into the toilet only to find the cat on the throne Priceless! - Excuse me please! I didn't know you were there!
