Hit me with those laser beams (piu-piu-piu, piu-piu, piu-piu, piu-piu-piu-piu)

First, let me get the title straight: I defeated a bunch of laser traps by a Florida Highway Patrol officer! I was driving at 90-100 in a rented 2020 BMW X3 in the extreme left lane and passed a slower vehicle when the warning sounded. I suspect the starting sequence had subconsciously taught me the alarms, so I braked quickly but gently to 80 and then to 77 as I passed the squad car hidden behind the guard rails. I reacted before the first tone ended and by the time the DFR8 announced "laser” I had already reduced speed as described. In practice I have never heard a laser warning signal, only trigger signals. I watched a TED talk that suggested my response time was probably between 5 and 20 milliseconds before the laser returned either a type or an error or reduced speed. The pulses are 5 milliseconds apart, and the laser guns need two retrace cycles to measure velocity. I'm amazed that I was lucky enough to respond so quickly. I'm not telling this story mainly to show off, but to share my experiences that I thought were impossible; The lasers can be defeated if you hit the brakes fast enough. So it's definitely worth trying if they hit with a warning. Obviously conventional radars are not a problem even for this lower range Uniden; The scatter is detected long before you see the cop. As for my assessment of the suction power, everything is fine. The problem I'm having is that I'm removing it for security reasons; The cups can cool down in the glove box and become too hard to work. I usually have to warm them up in my hands for a while before putting them back on.
