Soft, stretchy leather is slightly darker than the photo, but still a rich purple. No imperfections on seams or seams. The cover has 4 card slots and one for your ID (I was specifically looking for that in a check book cover). Sometimes the ID slot is narrow and the card is difficult to remove. This sleeve has a thumb slot in the center for easy removal of your ID. 4 slots are narrow enough to hold a card securely, cards won't slip out accidentally. I have a habit of putting two cards in each slot. The new case is too tight for that at the moment, but real leather will likely stretch over time if that's what you prefer. Surprisingly, the lid also has 3 bill compartments. One behind the cards, one behind the checkbook (separate from the checkbook slot) and one outside. It has two pen holders (one on each side of the valve) that are too small for my pilot gel but fit on a paper mat. I use charcoal pencils, so I particularly like the soft flexibility and apparent strength of the pen release tab. I definitely recommend this checkbook cover.
